Rayne Precision Engineering Limited, a family business, formed in 1992 as a CNC machining company, is located in the beautiful countryside of rural Staffordshire Rayne believe that fast, accurate job costing is an important and highly valued feature of their business to the customer.

Identifying Profit

Rayne Precision decided to invest in a Production Control System that would also support growth of the company and replace their manual processes. In addition they also wanted to improve control of the manufacturing process and enable a more efficient use of materials, labour and machinery. Following a careful selection process, Rayne selected Redthorn’s Aventa system.

Electronic Data Interface (EDI)

Dave Stevenson of Rayne says “Our main customer, JCB, was implementing an Electronic Data Interface (EDI) Link and Redthorn was in the process of developing this interface. The EDI Link was a fundamental part of the decision making process. The Aventa system was also purchased to help capacity planning and to understand where we were generating profit. Whilst we knew we were profitable we were unable to establish the parts where this was occurring and essentially take out the loss generating parts”.

“Brilliant Attention to Detail”

The five user system with four data-capture touch screens was installed in 2007 and whilst Rayne found it hard to adapt to a new system, they were well supported by Redthorn’s help-desk who Mr Stevenson describes as “very knowledgeable, in particular the technical staff who showed brilliant attention to detail”.

“Excellent Value for Money”

Rayne are now enjoying many of the benefits of the Aventa system. Mr Stevenson says, “The EDI and Sage link are my personal favourites, the Sales Order Processing module works very well and the file upload facility saves a lot of time on consignment stock”. “Aventa offers many of the features of its more expensive counterparts and helps give manufacturing & engineering companies a more professional image. Aventa offers excellent value for money and I have personally enjoyed using the system”.
